A fully automated, self-contained test solution which requires no specialist laboratory facilities; a complete low-cost solution rapid microbiology testing. This simple to use, rapid method, will give brands the ability to release product earlier than the traditional plate methods, in addition to the assurance of accurate assays for contaminants.

Step 01: Add sample to vial containing pre-prepared sterile media. Most Oculer assays utilise 10ml of samples for greater sensitivity of detection. Samples are pipetted into the vial and mixed by inversion.
Step 02: Put vials in Oculer. Bar-coded vials are placed into the system and a measurement of the oxygen concentration within the vial begins immediately and continues for the duration of the assay time.
Step 03: Read results. All results are presented in an easy-to-understand graphs on the dedicated software for the system. Either a pass or fail for qualitative assays such as yeasts & mould detection, or as a cfu/ml for Commercial Sterility tests. Two systems can be plugged into one laptop for easy reporting of 48 vials.
Oculer has manufactured it’s instruments to be the most robust, simple-to-use, and fully automated platforms available on the market today. At the core of the 930 Rapid Series technology is a carefully engineered integration of precision optics; finely tuned temperature incubation controls, fluorescent sensors that monitor changes in oxygen within the sample matrix, and an individually formulated growth medium for each assay that promotes the growth and detection of target microorganisms in the sample.
Ready-to-use sterile Oculer APCheck assay vials with bioengineered media formulations; for the rapid detection of specific target contaminants.
Full data traceability and results analysis enable maximum data integrity and safe dissemination of results information to those who need it….. fast.
The counting range of the Oculer system is up to 10^7 cfu/ml removing the need for multiple dilutions. Use of the Oculer TVC assays negates the need for laborious counting of plates and interferences in colony counting due to sample particulates and spreading organisms. Bacteria are often found in clumps in many sample matrices and these clumps produce a single colony, thereby underestimating the microbial load. Oculer assays are not impacted by bacterial clumping because they measure the amount of microbial respiration.
The Oculer system is capable of detecting a single mould spore in 10 ml of sample even in the presence of high background levels of lactic acid bacteria, which are added either for their probiotic effect or as cultures to inhibit mould growth. The Oculer Y&M assay is used successfully for a wide range of matrices and is supported by our dedicated customer support team.
CS-Check only detects those organisms that will actually grow in the customer’s product under test. When CS-Check was compared to traditional plating techniques, not only was it found to be more sensitive but it was also more accurate in that only organisms that were able to grow in particular products were detected by the Oculer system. Pour plates frequently result in a dilution of the inhibitors that prevent contaminants growing in the product – resulting in false positives. Oculer is unaffected by this phenomenon.
Oculer supplies pre-prepared vials containing gamma-irradiated culture medium at an ideal pH for Alicyclobacillus growth and the Oculer Rapid 930 series instruments can incubate samples at 50 Celsius. The simple three step process removes the need for the preparation of media and subsequent Quality Assurance, requires no specific microbiological expertise and gives negative results in 72 hours. Positive results can be obtained much earlier, with high levels of contamination giving results within hours.
The Oculer surface contamination kit provides both the swab and culture medium required for estimating the microbial load on surfaces. The kit can be used for determining the microbial load on any surface but is most often used for monitoring cleanroom surfaces. The instrument calculates the microbial load present on a swab by reference to a pre-loaded calibration curve and results can be presented as cfu/ml, pass or fail or as a traffic light system.
